Overview:

Microsoft Edge is the modern web browser developed by Microsoft, it was launched in 2015 and became the successor of Internet Explorer. It is built using the proprietary EdgeHTML engine of Microsoft, but since 2020 it has been an open-source Chromium browser, with significant improvements in performance, compatibility, and features, making it one of the most potent challengers to the web browser.

It is very well integrated with Windows and Microsoft services like Office 365 and OneDrive, which makes it very easy to use everything together. Features such as the Collection Tool help users to organize web content, a PDF Reader, and a distraction-free immersive reading mode. The start page of the browser can be customized, where users can add shortcuts to show news, weather and others according to preference.

Microsoft is focused on productivity by adding features such as vertical tabs, for tab management, and Sleeping Tabs, to improve performance by reducing resource consumption of inactive tabs. It also comes with a set of privacy and security features, which includes tracker prevention modes and Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, which blocks malicious websites and downloads.

The Chromium foundation allows Edge to support a vast library of extensions available on both the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store and the Chrome Web Store. With its light resource usage, it’s a practical browser for use in both personal and professional settings.

Edge is not only for general browsing, it also is useful for gamers and students by offering unique features. For example, integration with XBOX ensures optimization of browser-based game streaming, while the built-in math solver helps students. It also has enterprise-focused tools such as group policy support and IE Mode for legacy site compatibility.

One of Edge’s key characteristics is its energy efficiency. It is optimized to have a better battery life on laptops, making it ideal for work-on-the-go users.

Microsoft Edge mobile application shares the same experience cross-platform and is synced through a Microsoft account, with passwords, settings and other things kept in sync.

Overall, Microsoft Edge is a combination of speed, security, and innovative features towards holistic and complete browsing, whether for a professional, student or gamer.
